Groundwork: Building Strong Foundations for Mental Health

Person sitting in the back of a vehicle on a rural dirt road at sunset.

We flourish when our mental health has something solid to stand on. Because of this, the early “groundwork” that we develop in life shapes how we move through the world; whether we feel balanced or overwhelmed, secure or insecure when our world starts to shake.

In the horse world, groundwork is where everything truly begins. It’s the space where trust, safety, and partnership are built between horse and human, and it mirrors the collaborative, client‑centered approach at the heart of my practice.

My role is to help you reconnect with your groundwork, and rediscover a sense of security within yourself. Together, supported by a horse or a human guide, we will explore the parts of your foundation that were underdeveloped, overdeveloped, or overlooked, creating a more complete and compassionate path toward healing.

this might be the right place for you if...

You believe in client-driven collaboration:

Therapy should never feel forced or overly formal, and your input throughout therapy is crucial to me. I always strive to ensure you leave feeling understood and safely seen.

You value high-quality, creative solutions:

Your experience during our sessions should feel clear and secure. I focus on providing top-tier care, including innovative treatments like Brainspotting and Equine Therapy, a strong commitment to ethics, and extensive clinical experience.

You need some relief:

I specialize in supporting teens and young adults. I recognize the unique challenges young people often face, including anxiety, depression, substance use, moodiness, behavior non-compliance, social stressors, and relational conflict, to name a few. I am eager and equipped to join you in the struggle that young people face as they are building (or re-building) the foundations for their life.

You will not be alone.

about me

These words by Rumi, “You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens”, have driven me headlong into a passion for helping others find meaning and beauty in their brokenness. Our lives can demand much of us, and when the burden becomes too great we may find ourselves lost and disconnected. I am here to help you reconnect, rebuild, and redefine the purposes and hope you have in life, no matter what crossroads you are facing.

I have over 10 years of clinical experience, working within residential treatment centers, hospitals, 12-step programs, agencies, and private practice. I specialize in teen and young adult issues, anxiety, depression, grief, relational stressors, substance use, trauma, and identity issues. I offer individual therapy for all ages who are experiencing life transitions, and my passion is working with teens and young people. I use an eclectic therapy approach to suit each client in their unique way, and am trained in Brainspotting, which is a leading trauma recovery modality. I am also EAGALA and O.K. Corrall certified as an Equine Assisted Psychotherapist,  and offer experiential therapy with horses as a supplement to traditional talk therapy. Horses have played a profound role in my own life, and I am honored to lead others through their healing with this remarkable experience.

Things I’m known for in the office: high focus to your needs, creative solutions, accessibility (I use my direct cell for client texts/calls), genuineness, always having tea on hand, and finding humor in life.

Things I'm known for out of the office: my love of animals (particularly my two dogs, "Alamo" and "Supreme", and my Clydesdale “Neo”), anything to do with nature or country living, listening to music, and watching black and white films.

Call or text me. You are worth getting to know. I promise I will be authentic, professional, and real as we create and explore your story together.

IT'S NICE TO MEET YOU!
