The Eagala Model is a somatic and experiential therapy that invites you to feel through emotions, instead of thinking through emotions. We always use a team approach that includes a licensed, credentialed Mental Health Professional, and an Equine Specialist, both trained and certified through Eagala, the global standard for Equine Psychotherapy. You will be in good hands as you venture into your emotions with horses, watching your healing truly come forward.
When inside the arena, all the work is done on the ground with the horses front and center, deliberately unhindered and never ridden, and allowed to interact with the client as they wish. This creates space for you as the client, with the support of the professional facilitators, to reflect, project, and make deep connections. Horses show you parts of yourselves you may miss, helping you find yourself again.

At Groundwork Therapy, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality Equine Assisted Therapy. We limit our group size to six members to ensure an intimate and meaningful experience. Each of our facilitators are licensed and certified, prepared to create a profound group environment. Conveniently located in Auburn, CA, our barn features a large covered arena and open pastures, accommodating sessions rain or shine. All therapy is done on the ground, and no horse experience is required. Our diverse herd of horses, each with their unique personalities, are ready to help you uncover and explore your personal story.
Eagala is a mental health organization dedicated to revolutionizing mental health treatment by incorporating horses in the therapy process. Eagala's Model does not involve riding, rather it involves interacting with the horses and environment through experiences that end up paralleling other areas and relationships in life. Horses are highly intelligent and highly sensitive to our emotional state, they can sense where you are at, and can respond in ways that bring breakthroughs when done either in conjunction with talk therapy or entirely as the treatment model. Each session impacts clients through experiencing, feeling, and seeing their life stories unfold and change in the moment.
"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."
Winston Churchill
